If fishing is your passion, then carp fishing in France will be a delight. In France, there are many small lakes that are stocked wit carp that have grown quite large. Since the resorts offer fish and release programs, the carp continue to grow larger each year.

Many of the lakes that offer a French holiday for carp fishing are privately owned. This means that you will pay for the privilege of fishing in the lakes, but for the price you pay, you get the opportunity to fish the entire lake with a limited number of anglers fishing at the same time you are fishing. Many times, if you have a group of carp fishing friends, your group may be the only one on the lake.

Carp can grow to be quite large. Many are found in the forty to fifty pound range and there are some that will go to over 100 pounds. Therefore, when you get a carp on your line, you are going to have a fight to bring it to the shore.

Carp anglers are going to need some of the following equipment in order to be successful.

Your fishing rod should be a minimum of six feet in length. It should be a medium action rod. Remember, that longer rods make it easier to land a big fish.

Your reel should be either a spin casting reel or a spinning reel. It will need a very good drag. You should load the reel with at least 120 yards of twelve pound test fishing line.

For hooks, choose anything from a size 2 to a size 6 hook. Most of the private lakes require barbless hooks for catch and release and may specify the exact size and type of hook you can use. Be sure to consult the information in your packet if you have questions about hooks.

When fishing for carp, remember that they will drop the bait at the slightest of resistance. For this reason, fishing corks are not generally used and only split shot or slip sinkers should be used to weight your line. This will help you to be more successful in your fishing.

If you want an indicator of a fish on your line, try a slit piece of Styrofoam slipped over the line somewhere between the guide of the rod and the reel. Leave the reel open and when the fish pulls the line the Styrofoam will fly off of the line to get your attention.
