You even have an aquarium. But it’s not complete. It wouldn’t be, unless you add a pretty rug to the picture.

Adorning a living space with a well-chosen rug can have an effect on the room’s ambiance and people’s impression, including yours. To better utilize a rug as an important decorative material, know some basic information on how to properly position a rug.

There are actually no steadfast rules on how to really place rugs. It all boils down to which looks best for the room. However, there are certain ways to achieve maximum results.

In placing a rug under a coffee table or a sofa, have two to three inches of space behind the table or the sofa’s front area and have the back legs on the floor. If you have a big rug, placing the entire table or sofa on the rug is the way to go.

Choosing the right size for your rug is a vital point. Measure your desired space so you’ll know which rug has the accurate size. A too big or too small rug will not do. It messes up the whole interior aspect.

A rug with eight inches of extra space on the floor is an ideal size. It doesn’t look too crowded. Position your rug properly.

Large rugs are often placed in the dining area - here, they should extend 24 inches beyond the edges of the table. This allows people to move their dining chairs around comfortably without moving off the rug area.

A recommended size for a dining set is a 4X6 or 5X8 rug in round or hexagonal shape.
